Description

The concept of duty is one of the central themes of ethics as well as human life. Duties are concerned with action and any life depends and progresses through actions. Therefore the nature and quality of actions are very important for shaping any life. Duty is concerned with the 'ought' nature of actions. It is a normative concept. Therefore it is very difficult to decide which actions should carry the 'ought' tag. Ethics, being the study of morality and normative issues, is directly concerned with the nature and determining criteria of duties. According to the choice of the criteria which determine our duties, different ethical theories of duties take shape.
